Opera in the Park Series-COSI FAN TUTTE
BAY SHORE LYRIC OPERA will present 7 performances of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s opera Cosi fan Tutte in August & September, 2018 throughout several Bay Area locations (3 of which are FREE outdoor family-friendly events to the public as part of our Opera in the Park Series).
Opera in the Park shows include The Capitola Esplanade (with orchestra), Redwood City Town Square (with piano) and Saratoga's Wildwood Park (with piano). Additionally, BSLO will present Cosi fan Tutte with piano at the Henry Miller outdoor stage nestled among the Redwoods in beautiful Big Sur. San Francisco audiences will enjoy BSLO's Cosi fan Tutte at the the San Francisco Episcopalian Church of the Incarnation as part of the their Sunset Music Series.
This production is fully-staged with either piano accompaniment or chamber orchestra, sung in Italian with English dialogue and will feature BSLO’s artists under the baton of Michael DiGiacinto. Subtitled “The School for Lovers,” Cosi fan Tutte is a probing look into romantic relationships and their endurance with temptation. It starts out with a cynical older gentleman's bet to Ferrando and Gulgielmo (two officers) that their two beautiful young fiance's can’t remain faithful to their fiancés when they are deployed for war. As the intrigue deepens, Ferrando and Guglielmo disguise themselves as handsome Albanian tourists and attempt to court the young women’s affections. The couples’ feelings reveal themselves through this Mozart masterpiece and his brilliant librettist, Da Ponte. Funny, comical scenes develop and bring about a surprising final twist.
Bay Shore Lyric Opera’s artists perform with West Bay Opera, Opera San Jose and other Bay Area companies. Cast members include: Jennifer Der Torossian-Studley, Liliane Cromer, Michael Orlinsky, J.T. Williams, Kristin Genis-Lund & Norman Espinoza. The production will be sung in Italian and will include English dialogue in place of recitative.
